CHRISTOPHER CLICKED HIS pen and folded the paper back into his bag. He had more than enough for the review. Enough to be able to tell the Ibiza Discovered people he’d been there for work. Sunset, dancers, Balearic vibes, etc. etc. He took his phone from his pocket as Lucas stood to resume dancing and filmed his boyfriend for the next couple of minutes.

The way Lucas clapped his hands and stomped his feet in time with the music’s beats, the gentle wave and curling of his arms mimicking the wings, these were movements Christopher knew he had no chance of ever being able to copy. Pride radiated from his stomach, filling his chest and without thinking he tapped the shoulder of the journalist sat next to him. “That man is my boyfriend.” He pointed at Lucas.

“Lucky you.” She smiled and turned back to her Martini glass.

Yes, he reflected, he was lucky. Even if he’d never expected to fall for a dancer—an artistic, peripatetic, temperamental Spanish man—but somehow, it worked, they fitted together. Lucas couldn’t possibly have been more different from Christopher’s ex. Lucas made him feel like his life was worthwhile, his decisions were good ones, and the pair of them were equals. Lucas had never mocked Christopher for any of his beliefs or dreams, and neither had Christopher for Lucas’s. They both understood how that felt.
